Food has defined my life: one side of the family is gluttonous and has some wickedly good cooks- specially my uncles and every meal is a discovery in flavours. The other side is austere, minimal and happy to eat a set balanced menu everyday. Going to IHM, a premier culinary and hotel college in New Delhi just added more dazzle and science to the palate. Over the years I have passionately loved gourmet and street food with equal gusto and amidst a career in advertising and television, food remained the central theme: the first show I directed was on the royal cuisines of India (Shahi Dawat), the first book I wrote was a food book (The Bollywood Cookbook) and more recently I healed my thyroid, diabetes and other auto immune issues with food.
The politics of modern food and Nature’s intelligence have been my interests in the last decade – the more I experiment with my life in the slow lane, the more I have found answers to health. I have studied Ayurvedic cooking, Yoga (have teaching certificates from Bihar school of Yoga and Sivananada Yoga) and Vedanta and its interesting how the ancient sciences have answers to modern day problems. As an Ayurvedic chef, I use Vedantic tools to heal the complex health issues of our lives.
I am working on a food and travel memoir and teach Ayurvedic cooking. I am available for consultation and classes in the Bay Area, USA till July end 2019 and in the NCR, India for the rest of the year.
